It's an Inside Job
a little about what I do.
As Brad would tell you about me, I have a hard time tooting my own horn. That’s perhaps one of my downfalls as both an artist and a business owner. I’m not a pusher. I’m not a salesperson. And that’s why when I put up a Facebook post about this blog last week, I almost puked.
I absolutely hate saying to people: “Hey, check this out!” Seriously. I’d rather stub my toe than to say to someone: “Look at me!” But, last week, I pretty much said just that. I tooted my own horn and I was blown away to get over 30 new subscribers. (Thank you and welcome!)
What I offer people is a little different. It’s the inspiration to become a more resilient, healthier person. A more honest person. In all the music that I’ve written over the last decades, every song has really been about getting stronger from the inside out. While my personal training, yoga and wellness business offers an opportunity to get strong from the outside in.
In everything I do, I’m an advocate for weathering change as well as possible. Acknowledging process, allowing feelings, and pushing on when the time comes. For example: with training it’s not smart to lift more weight than you can handle. But with perseverance, patience and practice the day will come when you can handle more. And when that day comes, push it. Do it!
The mind is no different. An honest assessment of one’s self at the right time and place creates an opportunity for growth. That, in a nutshell, is my jam.
I would metaphorically tell my kids when they struggled through something: I can hold the flashlight, but you have to do the work. Sometimes that’s what it feels like I do for a living. I can see a movement pattern in a client that is causing issues. I can point it out every time I see it, but the client has to learn to make the changes. It’s never instantaneous, by the way. It takes time. Like I sing in one of my new (upcoming) songs: it’s an inside job. It’s one of my favorite lines. So empowering.
If you are new here, thanks for giving me a chance. I hope my small ramblings align with you and inspire you to be your best person. I’ll keep sharing whatever comes up. Whatever feels right. Often I just share my own “inside job,” occasionally in the form of a poem, sometimes what I share is directly health-related…after all, this publication is called Courage and Kale. ; )
Whatever it is, you have my best intentions.
I’m thankful to be here and that you are too. See you again shortly.
xoxo
