About ”Healer” ~ This song was written for my daughter, Olivia, as she recovered from a period of incredibly dangerous, self-destructive behavior. After a heart-wrenching and terrifying year, Olivia chose the road to recovery at the young age of 17. What followed was an intense and rocky journey filled with therapists, doctors, psychiatrists and rehab. About 4 months into her healing journey, Olivia made a big decision to shed all her support systems, other than us, her immediate family. “Healer” is the anthem I wrote to Olivia in response to her decision. I empirically understood her need to figure the rest out herself and intuitively felt she could handle it. It felt possible that I could take on the responsibility of holding the space for her during this fragile time as she continued to emerge from her trauma and learn to become her own healer. What Olivia and our family journeyed through became the catalyst for many songs that I did not expect to write — ultimately becoming my new upcoming album: “Amethyst.” Olivia has given me free rein to share her (and our) story. What a gift. (More singles are going to drop soon so be on the lookout!)
