HI Cory! Your garden is amazing! I understand the pain of gardening with the critters. I stopped gardening quite a few years ago for the exact reason. Between the deer, ground squirrels, rats, and mice I just couldn't keep up or feel any pleasure when a whole garden bed would be dessimated over night. Something must be in the air though because this year I'm going to try again, like you, bit by bit, smarter not harder.
Angie!!! I remember your amazing gardens and I can’t wait to hear how this year works for you!! my friend who lives in the mountains, created these removable domes of chicken wire. I’m sure you could use quarter inch wire too. It sounds like that might be something you would need way up there.
Bunnies just ate my 2 month old broccolini but still I keep my philosophy, loving neglect. I stuck three left over micro green speckled pea vines in my beds and never even looked at them and I have a few hundred peas so I made pea pesto. I am no longer horrified when something eats half a tomato and leaves the rest. I'm up to swearing instead of crying. Stop that you fuzzy asshole.
Oh, garden pests are heartbreaking! I made “curtains” of deer netting for four of my raised beds, and cover the other three beds as needed. I can’t grow as much as I would like, but it’s better than nothing—and keeps my over-planting tendencies under control so the garden does not get out of hand. lol
You are my sunshine and my inspiration!
